What do I do with the trigger wires during installation?
Each camera input has a dedicated trigger wire. These wires are used to activate (turn on) and deactivate (turn off) a camera — they should never be connected to a constant power source.
A common example: connect the trigger wire to the reverse light wire so that when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the backup camera activates automatically. The camera will then turn off when the vehicle is taken out of reverse.
My monitor is always on / turns on automatically when I start my vehicle. Is this normal?
Yes — Verity monitor power buttons have built-in memory. The monitor remembers its last power state when the vehicle is shut off and returns to that same state when the vehicle is started again.

If the monitor was on when you shut the vehicle off, it will turn back on automatically at the next startup.

If the monitor was off when you shut the vehicle off, it will remain off at the next startup.
This also applies to trigger-activated events, such as the monitor powering on automatically when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
What is a 16:9 aspect ratio?
16:9 refers to the width-to-height ratio of a display — 16 units wide for every 9 units tall. Since 2009, it has become the most widely used aspect ratio for televisions and computer monitors worldwide. It is also the international standard format for HDTV, Full HD, non-HD digital television, and analog widescreen television.
You'll find this ratio on all modern widescreen displays, making it the most recognized and compatible format in use today.

Why is my monitor screen blue?
A blue screen is typically caused by one of the following:
Wrong input selected
Most Verity monitors accept multiple camera inputs. If the monitor is not set to the input your camera is connected to, the screen will display blue. To fix this, use the input selector button on the monitor — look for a button labeled "CAM" or one that shows a box-over-box icon.
Special Note: On our SMM07S Mirror monitor, the screen turns black. Press a button on the monitor. If you hear a beep, the monitor is working.
Camera disconnected:
The camera may have become disconnected somewhere in the system. Check the following:

4-pin camera connection — Located approximately 8" from the back of the camera. Verity uses high-quality 4-pin aviation connectors with a waterproofing/locking sleeve for a secure rear camera connection.

13-pin monitor harness connection — This harness connects the cable from the back of the monitor to the camera extension cable. If one or more of the 13 pins is bent or broken, the camera signal cannot reach the monitor, resulting in a blue screen.

Camera extension cable — Inspect the cable running from the rear camera to the cab for any cuts, punctures, or pinches that could disrupt the signal.
Moisture in the camera
If the camera lens is cracked, if the cable has been pulled too tightly at the camera connection (breaking the waterproof seal), or if the camera has taken a significant impact, moisture can enter and compromise the wiring — causing signal loss and a blue screen.


Why won't my monitor screen turn off when in forward gear or park?
There are a few common reasons for this:
Monitor power-button memory
Verity monitors have built-in memory and will return to their last power state when the vehicle is restarted. If the monitor was on when the vehicle was shut off, it will turn back on automatically at the next startup — regardless of gear position.
Intentional always-on setting.
The OEM or fleet manager may have configured the monitor to remain on at all times. This is completely normal and will not damage the screen. Verity monitors are rated to run 5 to 7 years non-stop, so leaving them on during normal vehicle operation is not a concern.
Backup trigger wire not connected
If the backup trigger wire has not been connected to the vehicle, the monitor will not know when the vehicle is in reverse versus any other gear. Refer to your system manual for instructions on installing the trigger wire.
Why does my screen have spots that look like water on it?
Before assuming there is moisture inside the camera, check the lens first. Due to the high volume of calls our R&D department receives on this issue, the most common cause is simply a dirty camera lens — not water inside the camera.
Wipe the lens clean and check if the spots disappear before troubleshooting further.
A note on Verity camera waterproofing
All Verity cameras are factory-tested to a depth of 66 feet. Most Verity cameras carry an IP68 rating, and all commercial system cameras carry an IP69K rating.
Why does my camera image show white clouds or haze at night?
Verity cameras are equipped with infrared night vision. When the infrared light activates in low-light conditions, it can reflect off dirt or grime on the camera lens — creating a white, cloudy, or hazy appearance over the image.
A simple rinse with a garden hose is usually all it takes to clear up the problem.
Cleaning caution:
While Verity cameras are designed and tested to handle high-pressure water, washing the camera with a pressure washer rated over 1400 PSI may void the warranty.
What power supply is required for Verity systems?
Verity monitors accept 9–32V DC, making them compatible with a wide range of vehicles and electrical systems worldwide — from standard 14.3V trucks to 24V commercial and heavy-duty vehicles.
All Verity cameras are powered directly through the monitor, so no separate power connection to the camera is required.
Why is my camera image black and white at night?
This is completely normal. Verity cameras use white infrared for night vision. Infrared light is not visible to the human eye as color, so the image is processed and displayed in black and white in low-light conditions.
What is a camera cable pinout?
A pinout is a reference guide that identifies each pin (contact point) in an electrical connector and describes its specific function. When installing or troubleshooting your Verity camera cable, the pinout indicates which wire or contact carries power, ground, video signal, and so on.

What is an IP rating?
IP stands for Ingress Protection (also referred to as International Protection Rating), as defined by international standard IEC 60529. An IP rating consists of the letters "IP" followed by two digits — and sometimes an optional letter — that classify the level of protection an electronic enclosure provides against:

Solid objects — including dust, debris, and accidental contact with body parts such as hands and fingers

Water — including splashing, immersion, and high-pressure jets depending on the rating level
IP ratings were developed to give consumers and installers clear, standardized information about a product's durability — replacing vague marketing terms like "waterproof" with a measurable, internationally recognized standard.
For reference, most Verity cameras carry an IP68 rating, and all commercial system cameras carry an IP69K rating.
